Tokmanni pilots electronic shelf labels in partnership with EWQ

Tokmanni and EWQ are piloting digital price communication in two stores. The installation of around 40,000 electronic shelf labels (ESLs) has begun at the Järvenpää store, with approximately half of the labels installed on the first day.

Smoother price communication from season to season

Tokmanni’s retail calendar is built around four seasons, with the product range updated for each one. Preparing for winter, for example, involves a considerable amount of work in stores, including price communication. Electronic shelf labels and centrally managed price updates are intended to ease this workload.

The two-store pilot gives Tokmanni practical experience of how the solution works in day-to-day store operations. EWQ is partnering with Tokmanni on the planning and implementation of the pilot, which uses the EWQ ScanToPair solution and the EWQ ZONE platform for price communication.

In addition to Järvenpää, the pilot includes the new Tokmanni store in Kivistö, Vantaa, which is expected to open in late November.

Installation progressed swiftly in Järvenpää

Work at the Järvenpää store began at 7 a.m. with a staff briefing. EWQ was on site from the start to support the store team and assist with the installation. Around half of the store’s 40,000 electronic shelf labels were installed during the first day.

A full week had been allocated for the installation, but the work appeared to be progressing faster than expected.

“We had set aside a full week for the installation, but once work was underway, we estimated that we could complete most of it in just three days,” says Erika Ekfors, IT Service and Development Manager at Tokmanni.

Careful preparation makes a difference

Tokmanni’s store managers have been actively involved in planning the pilot, contributing their knowledge of day-to-day store operations. EWQ’s COO Fred Westerholm, who is leading the project for the company, praises Tokmanni’s thorough preparation.

“I have never seen such a well-planned installation. The expertise of Tokmanni’s store managers and the commitment of the staff are clear to see. When the groundwork has been done well, we can focus on the practical work right from the start. It’s great to be moving this project forward together with Tokmanni,” says Westerholm.
