ICA Maxi Syd has chosen EWQ as the supplier of electronic shelf labels (ESL). Installations will begin shortly, and a total of ten Maxi ICA Stormarknad stores in the South region will be implemented during the spring and summer. In addition to this, four ICA Maxi Stormarknad stores in the Stockholm area have also chosen EWQ, these installations will take place before the summer.

Electronic shelf labels (ESL) are already in use in Ica Supermarket Kringlan, among others, and the next installations will focus on ICA Gruppen’s largest chain, Maxi ICA Stormarknad. There are a total of 90 hypermarket-sized stores across Sweden, all of which are retailer-led. The installations of ESLs will start in eight stores during the spring, some of which will also be equipped with the EWQ Queue Management System. A further six stores will be installed during the summer. In total, more than 250 000 price displays will be installed in ICA stores during 2024.

Maxi ICA Stormarknad Toftanäs is one of eight stores to introduce ESLs this spring. Store manager Hasse Gunnarsson says ICA Maxi Syd has organised a joint tender to select a partner for the ESLs.

“Considering all the criteria, EWQ was the obvious choice: they have been adaptable and flexible throughout the process. Their product range has sizes that fit us perfectly! We are looking forward to getting started with digital pricing,” says Gunnarsson.

Electronic shelf labels provide ICA’s stores with the certainty of up-to-date price communication and improve the efficiency of the in-store environment. Automated price changes create cost savings by reducing waste, speeding up shelving and pricing, and freeing up staff time for more productive work and customer service.

“We at EWQ are extremely proud to have been entrusted by these retailers to digitise their price communication. This sets a new standard for how ESL can be implemented in hypermarkets in Sweden. Now our full focus is to deliver the best possible service, that job is in full speed”, says Linus Rindby, the country manager of EWQ Sverige.

ICA Sverige AB is the largest grocery chain in the Nordic countries, with almost 1,300 stores in Sweden. ICA comprises four different concepts: ICA Nära, ICA Supermarket, ICA Kvantum and Maxi ICA Stormarknad. In addition, the group includes Apoteket Hjärtat pharmacy chain and Baltic grocery chain Rimi Baltic.
