EcoVadis Gold strengthens EWQ’s position as a responsible and transparent technology partner

EWQ has been awarded a Gold rating in the EcoVadis sustainability assessment, placing the company among the top five percent of more than 150,000 companies evaluated worldwide. The achievement reflects our strong commitment to sustainable business practices, where environmental responsibility, social responsibility, and good governance are embedded in everyday operations. For our customers, this provides independent assurance that responsibility is implemented across the entire organisation and its value chain.

Strong performance across four sustainability areas

EWQ has achieved a Gold rating in the comprehensive EcoVadis sustainability assessment, with a score of 82 out of 100. This places the company among the top five percent of over 150,000 evaluated organisations worldwide and well above the industry average of 50 to 55 points.

EcoVadis, a leading global provider of sustainability ratings, assesses companies across four key areas: environment and climate, labour and human rights, business ethics, and sustainable procurement. The evaluation criteria are based on internationally recognised standards, including GRI, the UN Global Compact, ILO principles, and ISO 26000.

EWQ achieved at least the second highest rating level, advanced, across all four areas. In business ethics and sustainable procurement, EWQ’s performance reached an outstanding level with a score of 86 out of 100, reflecting a structured and proactive approach to sustainability.

Expectations around sustainability are constantly increasing, and we want to be a frontrunner in our field.”

Sanni Siilin, ESG & CSR Manager

Long term development behind achieving Gold level

EcoVadis has assessed EWQ’s sustainability performance since 2020, and we have achieved a medal rating every year. Reaching the Gold level reinforces our position as one of the most responsible companies in our field and signals to our stakeholders that our operations are transparent, reliable, and sustainable.

“We are extremely proud to have achieved the EcoVadis Gold rating. What makes this even more meaningful is that the benchmark continues to rise each year as companies strengthen their sustainability efforts,” says Sanni Siilin, ESG and CSR Manager at EWQ.

This achievement is the result of long term, systematic sustainability work, with a strong focus on transparent reporting. As a concrete example, we prepared our first sustainability report for 2024 in accordance with the VSME standard, a voluntary sustainability reporting framework designed for non listed SMEs. Reporting in line with VSME helps us better identify and manage ESG risks across the value chain and effectively respond to increasing stakeholder requirements.

Sustainability work is carried out continuously throughout the year, beyond reporting and assessments. We systematically develop our ways of working, monitor progress, train our personnel, and regularly evaluate our impact. This ensures that sustainability is not just a target or a principle, but is embedded in decision making, reflected in skilled employees, a healthy work community, and reliable collaboration with customers, partners, and society.

EcoVadis’ approach to assessing corporate responsibility aligns well with the key themes of our sustainability programme and provides a solid framework for tracking our progress. The feedback we receive is highly valuable and serves as an important tool for continuous improvement.

“Sustainability expectations are constantly increasing, and we aim to be a frontrunner in our size category. Close collaboration with our customers and partners is key to enabling the transition towards a circular and more resource efficient economy,” Siilin concludes.

Independent assessment supports customers’ ESG work

For our customers, the EcoVadis Gold rating provides assurance that EWQ’s sustainability practices meet internationally recognised standards and are based on an independent assessment. It also supports customers’ own sustainability and ESG objectives while bringing tangible efficiencies to their work. EWQ’s sustainability performance has been comprehensively evaluated across the entire value chain, including our suppliers’ sustainability practices and factory working conditions. Our customers can rely on the fact that these assessments have already been carried out on their behalf.

We have also calculated the carbon footprint of our value chain in accordance with the GHG Protocol, covering Scope 1 to 3 emissions extensively. This thorough analysis provides our customers with a ready made, comparable, and reportable foundation that can be directly utilised in their own climate and ESG targets without the need for additional analysis.

“In practice, this saves our customers time and resources. The need for separate questionnaires, audits, and sustainability assessments is reduced, and supply chain responsibility is easier to demonstrate in a reliable way. Collaboration becomes more predictable and risks are lower when sustainability is assessed, documented, and continuously developed as an integral part of our operations,” says Siilin.
